Zieglers (Bergheimerstrasse 1b, Heidelberg, Germany)

For more than 25 years, Ziegler has had a place in the Heidelberg
scene as a hybrid business. It’s a restaurant, it’s a bar, it’s a
music hall, and it’s a hotel.

The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. daily and is known for its fusion
cuisine, which incorporates aspects of a Latin-American culinary
style. Some days also offer specials, such as Tuesday’s
all-you-can-eat BBQ.

The long bar serves up all the standards: beer and wine, cocktails and
long drinks, shots and spirits. The restaurant and bar are both smoke
free, while the dance floor allows smoking.

Because Ziegler is a music hall, guests can expect both live bands and
DJ events. Wednesday nights offer dance lessons; “Salsa con rythmo y
sabor” (Salsa with rhythm and flavour) is immensely popular and is
just what the name suggests. Meanwhile, Thursdays feature the “After
Work Hour.” Some nights also have a more Caribbean-inspired
soundtrack, or jazz and swing nights.

Saturday nights are home to the Nite Club, which is less
genre-specific. The DJ plays a broader spectrum of music, from house,
R&B and soul, to funk and disco. There are also lots of classic
hip-hop jams. Admission to this night is free until 10:30 p.m. and is
for the 18-and-over crowd only. Because it draws namely from the young
student crowd, the bouncers have earned a reputation for being
meticulous about checking IDs.

Out of town guests or those who want to stick around can stay the
night in the second-floor hotel. The recently-renovated guest rooms
each feature their own shower, toilet and television. Single rooms
cost 50 Euro a night, while double rooms are 60 Euro each.

Ziegler is open until 3 a.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, until 4 a.m.
on Friday and until 5 a.m. on Saturday. The bar is closed on Sunday
and Monday.

It is close to the Bismarckplatz stop. Other nightlife establishments,
