The Harp (Venloerstr. 22, Köln, Germany)
The Harp is an Irish pub which is situated in the Neustadt-Nord area
of Cologne, part of the Belgian quarter. Its green exterior is
welcoming and evocative of the Irish heritage it hopes to emulate.
Visitors open the door and step in through the coloured façade,
entering a cozy room with dim lighting and dark wood paneling. To add
to the channeled feel of the Emerald Isle, the walls are adorned with
photos featuring the people and places and sights and sounds of
Ireland. And of course, no Irish pub is complete without its fair
share of four-leaf clovers throughout: the luck of the Irish indeed!
The welcoming atmosphere doesn’t end there, as the people working at
The Harp are friendly and hospitable.
In addition to complimentary bar snacks, The Harp also has grill menu,
which offers cooked dishes, burgers and traditional chips. As is
standard with pub fare, the food is averagely prepared and overly
priced, but with that’s a given. And when the kitchen closes at 11
p.m., there is always bread and butter to tide over the hungry.
In addition to showing sports games on the television, patrons can
also challenge one another to a game of darts. A jukebox plays music
and smokers are also welcome here.
Where the drink menu is concerned, Irish (and British) standards, such
as Guinness, Newcastle Brown Ale, and Murphy’s can be ordered. And of
course, as its name suggests, don’t forget to look for Harp Irish
Lager listed prominently on the menu. Visit during Happy Hour and
receive a discount on beer and wine.
The Harp is located at Venloerstr. 22, close to U-Bahn stations
Hans-Böckler-Platz and Friesenplatz. The bar is open from 5 p.m. until
1 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday and from 5 p.m. until 3 a.m. on
Friday and Saturday.
