Kaiser (Untere Straße 30, Heidelberg, Germany)

While many bars are simply bars, the aim of Kaiser is to go above and beyond that bar label. It’s true that Kaiser is a traditional sports bar in many ways, but it’s also a casual place to hang out with friends, as well as a venue that is capable of transforming into a disco or club on the weekend. Essentially, it offers a little bit of something for everyone.

Each night is a different theme, such as Monday nights, which are Astra nights. This is when patrons can buy bottles of Astra for 2,50 Euros each, or go all in, purchasing five for a discounted price of 10 Euros. Other days feature discounts on long drinks; all long drinks are 5 Euros on Tuesdays, and they are available at three for the price of two on Wednesdays. Weekends are host to parties with DJs, offering 1.5 liter pitchers of long drinks for 28 Euros, while Sundays are meant for relaxing and watching Bundesliga games and select films.

Drink specials also abound at Kaiser, which offers a special drink of the day, every day. Larger groups can buy Der Kaiserkranz, which includes 11 Kölsch and seven shots to be split between everyone. And don’t forget to mention if it’s your birthday; those who choose Kaiser as the location to celebrate will be given a bottle of Prosecco, on the house.

Kaiser is located at Untere Str. 30, nearby Heidelberg University and close to the banks of the Necker. The closest public transportation is the Heidelberg-Altstadt Bahnhof, which is less than a kilometer walk away. The bar is open on weekdays at 7 p.m. and weekends at 2:30 p.m., with hours that go into the early mornings, as late as 2 or 3 a.m. The one exception is on Sunday, when the bar closes at 10 p.m.
