Down Under (Frankfurter Str. 34, Bad Vilbel, Germany)

It’s difficult to imagine Australian culture in the middle of Germany, but if you go to Down Under, that’s exactly what you’ll find. While a visit to Down Under won’t leave its visitors with a feeling of being transported directly to the Southern continent, it still offers a taste of Australian authenticity.

Naturally, the menu offers a wide variety of salads, burgers, and steaks to choose from, as well as barbequed skewers of meat and vegetables. The more exotic of eaters can even try replacements of Australian specialties, such as emu, crocodile, and kangaroo.

In addition to its particularly foreign fare, Down Under is also known for its cocktails, and every month there is a special cocktail offered at a discounted price. But as everyone knows, Foster’s is Australian for beer, so expect plenty of that on tap. Those who prefer a German brew can instead opt for a half-liter glass of Duckstein Premium or Holsten Pilsener, both which cost 5,50 euro.

In addition to the regular restaurant, there is also a smoking area, separate from the rest of the room. In there, customers will find a large television screen which shows the current game, which is usually a football match of some sort.

Although it evokes a feeling of the Outback, Down Under is centrally positioned in the middle of the inner city. The restaurant features a fair amount of space – both plenty of parking on the street or in nearby lots, and plenty of room for seating inside or outside. The restaurant and bar is open every day from noon until 1 a.m.

Down Under is located at Frankfurter Str. 34, in Bad Vilbel, a small town just outside of Frankfurt am Main. It is a short walk from S-Bahn line 6, which travels to and from Frankfurt.
