Contra N is one of the “edgier” bars in Mannheim that serves up more than just drinks. Referred to as a culture bar, the particular culture that Contra N services is that of the alternative community. More specifically, fans of rock music, heavy metal, indie rock and punk will find that the musical selection, both on the speakers and live, is pleasing.

The décor itself is dark to match the mood, with walls painted black and many of the patrons in clothing to match. The hours of operation are late, with the bar closing at 3 a.m. on Thursdays and 5 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. What’s important to note is that in spite of the late closing times, after 1:30 a.m. on the week nights and 2:30 a.m. on weekends, Contra N no longer lets in after hour visitors. So if you’re planning on visiting, be certain to play it safe and arrive on time.

The alcohol selection is fairly standard, with different drink specials each night. Long Island and Jamaica ice teas are 3,30 Euro on Thursday nights until midnight; afterward Lasala-Absinth shots are 2,50 Euro each until closing. Friday nights offer 1 liter carafes of longdrinks until 10 p.m., ranging in cost from 6,50 to 6,90 Euro. Afterward, tequila can be purchased for 1,50 Euro until closing. And on Saturdays, 1,5 liter pitchers of beer cost 5,90 Euro until 10 p.m.; afterward, shots of Jägermeister are available for 1 Euro each until closing.
