BAR LØNNEBERGA (Hochstrasse 10, Lüdenscheid, Germany)
Bar Lønneberga is one of those places that can’t help but radiate the feeling of traditional German Gemütlichkeit. The storefront is clean and open, with lots of white and light allowing a view of the inside to shine through to the sidewalk.
On the walls hang pictures big and small, depicting nature scenes and engaging photography. Against the back wall lies the bar, featuring a blackboard with offerings listed in white chalk. There are stools for customers to sit, and lightbulbs hang from strings over the seats, unadorned by lampshades. Along with the typical drinking fare, there is also a coffee machine, for Bar Lønneberga functions as a bar and a cafe.
The rest of the room consists of a mixture of long tables and little tables, mismatched chairs, sofas and stools. Bar Lønneberga is less of a place to get rowdy about a game, and more of a place to enjoy the company of friends in a relaxed setting.
Music can be heard in the bar, in both the pre-recorded and live formats. The bar even has its own last.fm page, where it scrobbles the songs that have played. In this way, patrons can either visit the site to find out the name of that one song they loved, or check ahead of time before going out on the town to see what kind of tunes are setting the mood on a particular evening.
Additionally, it’s not uncommon for musicians to perform at the bar. There are designated acoustic nights or unplugged performances, where four bands play for a price tag of 4 euro.
While listening to music, patrons can enjoy a bottle of Astra Urtyp for 2,20 euro or Carlsberg for 2,50 euro.
Bar Lønneberga is open from Wednesdays through Sundays at 7 p.m. until midnight. Wednesdays are special evenings, during which the bar serves chili and offers board games. A popular choice is Mensch ärgere Dich nicht, which is the German version of the English game Ludo, the American games Parcheesi and Trouble, and the Indian game Pachisi. Meanwhile, Sunday nights show the television show Tatort.
Bar Lønneberga is located at Hochstrasse 10, close to the city center.
